Converse x Jack Purcell | Fall 2010 Collection

Equal parts refined and rebellious, the Jack Purcell and Converse collection celebrates its 75th anniversary in Fall 2010. Taking inspiration from the man behind the iconic smile, this season’s offerings reference the 1930s with updated silhouettes taken from the archive and early 20th century techniques. From re-launching the original Johnny shoe first appearing in the ‘30s to updated treatments such as broguing and a new seasonal assortment of garment dyed hues, this season delivers something for fans of clean, bold style. Classic menswear trends lend a clever juxtaposition between sport heritage and stylistic fashion presence of Jack Purcell shoes. All of the shoes in this collection have a rich, hand-crafted look and feel, premium linings and comfort foot beds, unlocking the gates of the country club – of course – with a knowing smile.

Debuting in 1935, world famous champion badminton and tennis pro Jack Purcell helped design an innovative and durable performance court shoe, with its iconic toe smile, that irrevocably changed both games by raising the level of play made possible by performance footwear. Eternally hip and understated, this classic court shoe now pushes that status in a progressive new direction. With a contemporary twist on the classic 1930’s silhouette highlighting the telltale smile toe, the Jack Purcell shoe embarks on a 21st century renaissance injected with a refined and simple style. The Fall 2010 collection amplifies the Jack Purcell heritage with a fresh take on classic silhouettes, rich leathers and material treatments that are brash, subtle, and of course distinctly Jack. The new Fall collection will be available nationwide and internationally at specialty retailers, department stores and online at www.converse.com beginning in June 2010.

There will be a special Jack Purcell Pop-up Shop at the NYC Saks Fifth Avenue location from September 2 – September 19, 2010 that will feature limited edition Jack Purcell shoes. Limited edition copies of the “Smile If You’re a Player” photo book shot by Todd Selby will be provided as a gift with purchase. Todd Selby, a regarded photographer with an eye for the details of lives well lived and his world renowned blog TheSelby.com, shot the 2010 Jack Purcell campaign for Converse.  On September 10, 2010 Converse will be hosting a special Jack Purcell photo booth during Fashion Night Out from 7PM – 10PM.
