Corey Helford Gallery | Bristol’s City Museum & Art Gallery

Corey Helford GalleryFor the first time, a world-class collection of works from some of the finest emerging and noted living U.S. Urban and Contemporary artists from the new American art scene is being unveiled internationally in a museum exhibition for British and European audiences. In the gallery’s stand-out tradition of unprecedented firsts, Los Angeles’ Corey Helford Gallery has collaborated with Bristol’s City Museum & Art Gallery – the home of Banksy vs Bristol Museum, British street phenomenon Banksy’s largest and most-talked about world exhibition to date – to present a diverse range of 45 artists, spanning the spectrum from pop surreal to neo-figurative to street in the historic and momentous art event, ART FROM THE NEW WORLD. The gallery will open to the public in Bristol, England on Saturday, May 1, 2010 and will be on view through August 22nd.

“Like the Arts Decoratif of Paris in 1925, like the bright, poppy England of the 1960’s and the dark, clever British “street art” movement of the early 2000’s, America is gushing forth a new wave of taste and style born of Pop Iconic culture, expanding American diversity, resistance to the mainstream art world and a need to communicate to an art audience looking for relevance in America’s Age of Uncertainty. This is not the work of a valiant few, this is a large communal movement encompassing all forms of media and art – painting, sculpture, printing, stencil, photography, digital art – all under the umbrella of an art scene that has defied the traditional path to acceptance and been embraced by a new generation of collectors and appreciatists who crowd the exhibitions of a growing circuit of alternative galleries spreading throughout the United States,” writes Jan Corey Helford, Curator and Artistic Director.
