Drake | The Next Big Thing

Who is Drake? Where did he come from? Who is he signed to? Is he really dating Rihanna? What is Degrassi? All those questions will be answered in this post but the most important question we will answer is, does he have what it takes to be the next Kanye West?
Turn the page for a good read.
Aubrey Drake Graham was born on October 24th, 1986 in Toronto, Ontario. His father was a African American drummer who worked with Jerry Lee Lewis and his mother was a white Jewish Canadian. After his parents divorced when he was 5 years old, he was raised by his mother in Toronto’s wealthy Forest Hill neighborhood. He began his acting career in 2001 playing Jimmy Brooks, a basketball star on Degrassi: The Next Generation.
In 2006 Drake released his first mixtape Room for Improvement on Myspace.com as well as his own site. Capitalizing off the buzz and success he began releasing more material and by 2007 he released Comeback Season which featured his first remix featuring Lil Wayne “Man of the Year” In 2008 he released Heartbreak Drake and by then he had everyone buzzing and coming back for more. Finally we reach 2009 and Drake puts out his 4th mix tape, So Far Gone (click here to download) and the rest is history. So Far Gone is a mixtape but gives the feeling of an album, “Best I Ever Had” is the hottest Hip-Hop single of the summer and other singles off the mix tape are starting to air on the radio. It is clear that Drake is Lil Wayne’s protege and signing him to Young Money might make up for his questionable Rock album he’s putting out, good move Wayne!

After leaving Degrassi Drake has more time to devote to music and is currently working on his debut album, “Thank Me Later” which is set to release later this year. He also will be featured on the next Jay Z single “Off That” and is currently on Mary J. Blige’s single “The One”. How “big” is Drake getting? He was seen making out with Rihanna but everyone is asking if he is dating Rihanna. It doesn’t seem they are a couple after Drake called up hot 97 to clear things up, he says they are only friends (hmmmmm??). We can’t remember the last rapper to have this much buzz since…. you know who, and although he’s been compared to the “Fresh Prince” we still find ourselves asking, can he be the next Kanye West?
This is what we believe, we are in a new era of Hip-Hop and one thing is for sure, Drake definetely fits in perfectly. To compare anyone to Kanye West is pretty rediculous seeing how many different hats he could wear. As far as lyrics are concered we believe he has what it takes to be the next big thing, listening to “Say What’s Real” alone proves that theory. Cultureshoq is excited to hear your album Drake, good luck young G.
