Enlighten | Light-Enabled Leather Case for the Kindle 2

For those of you who are living under a rock the Amazon Kindle is a software and hardware platform developed by Amazon.com to display e-books and other digital media on the go. The first device known as the Kindle was released in the United States on November 19, 2007 to great fanfare. Case-Mate, filling the void, then designed a case for Amazon’s next adaptation, The Kindle II. The accessory was dubbed the Enlighten and will be available sometime in early December.

The case is made of genuine leather in an Old English book style so now reading Dan Brown will feel like reading Dante. It’s the first case on the market equipped with a LED powered light for nighttime reading as well as an interior side pocket for storage.

Pro’s

On the positive side, the light attachment is a totally functional and a truly brilliant idea (no pun intended). And, since that seems to be the main reason that this particular kindle’s cover existance, that is an important positive feature.

Con’s

On the negative side…I really enjoy the slimness and light weight quality of the original basic kindle cover moreso than this new adaptation (the cover definitely adds weight and heft). However, the bigger negative for us, is that even though the kindle itself is held securely in the cover…the actual part with the light attachment does not stay securely in place. It pops out of the end holders too easily. If the design of the ends was changed so that that piece stayed in place securely, then the extra weight of the cover would still be worth it.

Shoq or Not?

Overall we found the product to be very useful and a marked improvement over its predecessor. It is a must have accessory for any Kindle user and with its release around the corner would make a perfect gift for any Cultureshoq employee, hint hint.
