Jennifer’s Body | Review by Matt R.

Seeing Jennifer’s Body was just like the first time I saw any girl’s body: It was mildly disappointing after all the build up, but I was still glad to spend the $10.50 to do it.
More pay for play after the jump.
Jennifer’s Body stars Amanda Seyfried but not the other wives from Big Love. It also stars Adam Brody, but he doesn’t act like Seth Cohen at all. He wears eye make-up, sings in an emo band, and sacrifices virgins. Also involved is JK Simmons from Juno and OZ. He has a hook for a hand but they never explain why. That Diablo Cody is so quirky. And that’s it. There’s absolutely nobody else in this movie.

There is no Jennifer. It’s actually all a post-modern metaphor for the disillusionment of society at the hands of the corporate zeitgeist. The “body” is a vessel in which our hopes and fears for a dystopian society come to fruition. It is also a think piece about a mid-level band coming to terms with their own mediocrity.
Come on people. Jennifer is Megan “In France she would be known as Le Renard, and hunted with only her cunning to protect her” Fox. She is simultaneously able to look drop-dead handsome and shit-your-pants creepy all within seconds of each other. And there’s a girl kiss.
Seriously though, this is an entertaining flick. It’s not the derivative schlock most horror films have become these days. And while it’s not really outright scary, it definitely belongs in the horror genre. Strong, intelligent, powerful female characters? That’ll give you worse nightmares than Freddy Kruger ever could.
There’s a nice amount of gore and gross body matter. Did I mention there was a girl kiss? Well there is, and that’s all you care about anyway, you heathens. Nevermind that Diablo Cody has cooked up another fun film. You want to see Megan Fox in boy shorts make out with the dumb Mean Girl. I get it.

Don’t listen to all the flop talk. Haters are hating overtime on Cody and Fox, for whatever reasons. I think they’re both pretty fantastic. The movie only cost like $16 million to make, which is like Tom Cruise’s hair product budget, so it’ll all end up gravy on the Hollywood end. But you should go see it, because it’s a good time. Don’t take it too seriously and you’ll walk out enjoying yourself. Plus, Adam Brody is in it. And he has possibly one of the greatest murdering a human scenes ever.

I’ll give this 3 out of 5 Low Shoulders, but more importantly, 5 out of 5 Megan Foxes, if you want to stare at her for two hours without having to see Transformers 2.
So very worth it.
