Shoqing | H&M Owner Buys English Village

There are some crazy things someone could do with that H&M money. Swedish billionaire and owner of H&M, Stefan Persson has purchased an entire English village for 25 million pounds , which is near $40 million US. It includes somewhere near 2,000 acres of surrounding land as well. With all the money in the world, why not buy a village, right? I know it would be on my list, somewhere.
Make that leap to check out his new purchase…
The village of Linkenholt is located near Andover, Hampshire. The bargain price of $40 million includes a castle, 1,500 acres of land and 425 acres of forest area, also a cricket field and 21 weekend houses for rent. There is actually a church on the land but that was not included in the sale. The village of Linkenholt has been run since the 1970′s by a charitable trust. Its last owner was Herbert Blagrave, but he passed away and never had any children.
Now, there are people who still live in this village. Many of them have been there their whole lives. If we were Persson, we would let everyone stay, just raise the rent a bit. The monthly price now is 500 pounds for a humble house , and up to 3,500 pounds for the manor house.
We would make some changes though. Change the name for one. Linkenholt does not scream vacation destination to us. Change the cricket field to a soccer pitch, get the kids involved unless Persson’s plans are the take over the whole village and kick everyone out and expand that castle. As wrong as it sounds, Stefan Persson would be quite the , as the kids say, “Baller”. Maybe he should buy some new suits.
