Leslie Buck, who died last week at the age of 87, is the famous mind behind the Anthora Coffee Cups which have been standard around New York City for decades. Recently, the famous cups, which could be found at diners and coffee shops around the city, have been increasingly rare because of eateries choosing to buy more company friendly misprints. Buck chose the Grecian theme because Greeks dominated the coffee and diner scene back in the ’60s. The cup’s friendly inscription “We Are Happy To Serve You” uses a classical script, and is perhaps its most identifying trait of the cups.
