YMC | Spring/Summer 2010 Collection | A Closer Look
The Spring/Summer 2010 collection has all the classic elements that make up the YMC aesthetic: premium fabrics, considered detailing, wearable and functional. This season, the early 80s Hard Times fashion movement, mid 80s styling of jangly pop bands such as Orange Juice and other postcard label bands and the C86 scene all prove to be a creative melting pot for designer Fraser Moss, a keen advocate of the Nerdy Cool look. We also see a wide scope global influence within some of the collections more directional pieces: batik prints inspired by African tribal robes, knits inspired by Navajo Indian blankets and European factory wear chic- a nod to the depression era. Other key pieces this season include for guys: Pointelle knit jumpers, Selvedge canvas chinos, waxed cotton parkas and lace to toe suede boots; for girls: milk maid dresses, pijama style pants, neck scarf detail jackets, button wrap skirts, bold fire fighter Macs and saddle shoes. A bold and primary colour palette of bright yellows, cherry red’s and candy stripes are tempered with washed khaki and blue, grey, deep navy and olive green.
